Mountain Plains NAHRO is happy to offered the following intensive training modules for you to consider for your staff.

NAHRO HOUSING QUALITY STANDARDS (HQS) TRAINING AND PROFICIENCY EXAM
Presented by a NAHRO Certified Trainer
Wednesday, June 9, through Friday, June 11
NAHRO’s Housing Quality Standards instruction provides the knowledge and skills necessary for the inspection of Section 8 housing units. Participants learn how to improve the level of their agency's Section 8 housing inspection and meet SEMAP requirements by identifying related work skills, presenting procedures and forms impacting standards, and evaluating current operations to identify strengths and challenges all within the changing environment. Topics include: Section 8 pre-inspection and inspection preparation and procedures; negotiation and arbitration - how to successfully come to agreement with landlords and residents; problem solving and conflict resolution; consistency – how to achieve unfailing inspections, even when HUD arrives for a surprise review; and re-inspection - how to avoid pitfalls. NAHRO’s HQS seminar fulfills one of the requirements for NAHRO’s Certified Specialist of Inspection – HQS.

Mountain Plains NAHRO is happy to be offer this three-day training for only $635 including all conference meals and events (three breakfasts, two lunches, one reception and the banquet dinner). NAHRO’s normal price for the training is $715 without any meals.

HUD PROCUREMENT TRAINING
Presented by the Regional HUD Office of Public Housing
Thursday, June 10 from 10:45 am- 5:15 pm
A 4-½ hour training that will provide agencies that manage public housing an understanding of the most current HUD construction contracting and procurement general requirements, types of procurement (e.g. small purchases, sealed bids, competitive and non-competitive procurement, qualification-based selection procurement for Architect-Engineer and professional services), as well as post-award requirements and contract administration. Some time will be also be devoted to Davis Bacon and Federal Labor standards and wage rates, use of bid alternates and unit prices, as well as creative types of procurement including use of Indefinite- Delivery Contracts, and bundling contracts. Energy audits, Energy Star and Energy Performance Contracting for small PHAs will also be considered. There is no additional cost above the conference registration fee to attend this training.

SERVICE COORDINATOR TRAINING
Presented by the American Association of Service Coordinators
Wednesday, June 9 and Thursday, June 10 from 10:45 am to 5:45 pm.
This training will cover the basics of Service Coordination in both Multi-Family housing and ROSS programs, plus coordination of FSS programming. It will include information related to Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and Outcome Measurement; plus basic tools, strategies and guidelines, current status of Service Coordination legislation and funding, as well as plenty of time for questions and answers. One entire session will be devoted to the issue of Hoarding. There is no additional cost above the conference registration fee to attend this training.

What’s Up with NAHRO?- Back by popular demand! Jonathan Zimmerman, NAHRO’s Senior Policy Analyst, NAHRO, will discuss “hot topic” affordable housing industry issues including HUD’s 2011 budget, appropriations of HUD programs, SEVRA and HUD’s Transformation of Rental Assistance (TRA) proposal.

Surviving HUD Reviews- Does the thought of any HUD review make you queasy? If you believe knowledge is power come learn what to expect during a HUD review and how you can prepare for the next one including the documents you need to have available.

Fair Housing- Confused about Fair Housing laws that affect our operations? Wondering why FHEO takes the actions it does after a complaint has been filed. This session will provide timely information and provide answers to your difficult questions.

Let’s Get Fraud Under Control- It can be an exasperating experience getting program participants to fully disclose the information PHAs need. Learn to reduce fraud and improve integrity by coordinating all players including staff, broad members, reviewing program policies, revising forms to ask pertinent details and strict insistence on following the rules.

Public Housing Update- Receive an update from HUD on new regulations and notices for the Public Housing Program.

Section 8 Update- Receive an update from HUD on new regulations and notices for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program including the Rent Refinement Rule.

EIV, VMS & PIC – This session is designed to clarify the key components of these systems and to answer all your functional questions.

Professional Development

How Great Leaders Get Things Done: The Art of Influence- This session will present a set of strategies and techniques used by very effective leaders in nonprofits and business. Emphasis will be on using new strategies for communication, leadership, leveraging time and efforts, more effective planning and decision-making techniques

Mental Health Issues: It’s a Full Moon- It’s Not a Myth- Housing providers face many challenges when it comes to serving persons who suffer from mental illness and other disabilities. This session is designed to provide insights on how mental illness impacts the behaviors and independent living skills of program participants. Learn how you can increase your understanding of disabling factors and develop the skills to better serve this population.

Working With Difficult & Resistant Employees- Learn about the strategies and resources that are used to make the management of difficult and resistant employees easier. Participants will benefit from a greater understanding of current applied research and techniques that are quick, effective and easy to use.

Non-Profit Affordable Housing Development- If you’re thinking about creating a Non-Profit to do affordable housing development, you’re probably full of questions: “How do I get started? What are the pros and cons? Where do I go for resources? What makes a good development project?” This session will answer these questions and help you focus your approach to developing affordable housing that fit your organizations needs.

HTVN- Grievance Hearing Officer Training- Looking for a reasonable option to train staff that can’t or won’t come to a conference. Better understand the role of a hearing officer through this online training presentation by the Housing Televideo Network (HTVN).
